Cruiser Motorcycles is a term given to the modern motorcycles whose design and style are based on the classic motorcycles manufactured in the United States of America from the early 1930s to the late 1960s. These models; resembling the designs and riding comfort of some of those classic machines now command at least 60% of the motorcycle market. The classic motorcycle designs that these cruisers have incorporated into their look were patronized by the likes of Indian, Harley-Davidson, Henderson and many others. Nowadays, even the bigwigs of the motorcycle industry such as Honda, BMW, and Suzuki are designing their cruisers based on the designs of the original classic American machines.
The riding position of the classic Cruiser Motorcycles is something of a cult as it keeps the feet forward and the handlebars are placed so the rider sits up erect in order to get into the riding position. This is the classic cruiser riding position that has been the subject of many fantasies and movies and so on and so forth. However, since the late 1980s, many power cruisers made in Japan have been developed featuring riding positions that are more towards the neutral.
Nowadays, the custom made chopper motorcycles are also being considered as Cruiser Motorcycles. However, apart from the comfort of riding, there are some drawbacks of a cruiser as well. The performance that they give can be cited to be limited and the ability to turn is not very good for a cruiser because it is designed in a very low-slung manner. For riders who prefer going round the corners at very high speeds, it is imperative that they customize their cruiser to increase the lean angle of the vehicle or they can even opt for a performance cruiser of even a sport cruiser.
More often than not, Cruiser Motorcycles are modified to meet the needs of the rider and hence, they are very often regarded as custom bikes. Yet, one thing is for sure, riding a cruiser is definitely one of the best experiences that a human being can have.
